Recycled Plush Toys, Made to GRS Standards

Recycled RPET shells and a chain of custody you can put in front of a buyer, from 100 pieces — including the one part of a plush toy we will never describe as recycled when it is not: the filling.

Material Placement

Where the recycled content actually sits in a plush toy

Most of what a buyer sees and touches is one surface fabric. That is where recycled content makes a visible difference, and it is where we apply it: RPET plush pile woven from post-consumer PET under GRS chain of custody, with the backing and woven labels available on the same traceability.

Eyes, nose, thread and hardware are separate specification decisions. As a GRS certified plush manufacturer we list which components carry recycled material and which do not — rather than calling the whole toy recycled and hoping nobody asks.

  • Surface shell: RPET pile from post-consumer PET, GRS chain of custody
  • Backing & woven labels: available on the same traceability
  • Eyes, thread, hardware: specified per design; carried as conventional components and declared as such
  • Filling: quoted as a separate decision — see below
The Honest Version

The filling is a separate decision, and we will not paper over it

Recycled textile regrind creases under vacuum transit and does not recover its loft; virgin siliconized hollow fibre does. Buyers asking for a sustainable plush are often the buyers most exposed to returns, so we quote both: standard virgin PP filling, or GRS recycled polyester fill on request, supplied with a loft sample so the difference is visible in your hand before you choose. The mechanics of fibre grades, deniers and recovery behaviour are worked through in our filling guide.

That is what an eco friendly plush bulk programme looks like when it survives a returns audit: the recycled content concentrated where it shows, and the parts that cannot honestly be recycled declared instead of implied. Freight planning for either version is covered in our CBM and landed cost guide.

Documentation

The certificates a recycled programme actually needs

GRS scope & transaction

The factory holds a GRS scope certificate, and we issue the transaction certificate (TC) covering your shipment — the document a compliance team actually asks for.

Oeko-Tex certified dyeing

Azo-free and phthalate-free, for anything that touches a child's skin. The same dye-house standards apply to RPET and virgin fabric alike.

Product-level toy testing

EN 71-3 migration for the EU and UK, ASTM F963-23 for the US. Recycled fibre still has to pass the same chemical migration limits as virgin fibre — there is no exemption.

Audit packs, including GRS and BSCI documentation, are shareable under NDA — see the factory audit page.

Retail Claims

What you can print on the hangtag

Recycled claims are regulated in most of your markets. GRS logo use requires a valid certificate plus a transaction certificate covering the goods; words like "biodegradable" or "100% eco-friendly" do not survive scrutiny on a polyester toy. We supply the declaration wording and the certificate references your compliance team needs, so the claim on the shelf matches the paperwork in the file.

Recycled Plush FAQ

Questions buyers ask about recycled plush

Is recycled plush fabric as soft as virgin polyester?

Yes, at the same pile construction. RPET yarn is chemically identical to virgin polyester; only the feedstock differs. Softness comes from pile length, density and finish, not from whether the yarn was recycled.

What is the MOQ for recycled RPET plush toys?

100 pieces per design and colourway, the same as our standard range, so you can test a recycled line without committing to a container.

Do you issue GRS transaction certificates?

Yes. The factory holds GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification, and we provide the scope certificate plus the transaction certificate covering your shipment, so the recycled content can be traced through the chain of custody.

Does recycled plush cost more?

The RPET shell usually carries a modest premium over an equivalent virgin fabric, and the gap depends on the pile and the yarn. We quote both versions in the same RFQ, so it stays a visible line item rather than a markup.

Building a sustainable plush line?

Tell us the market and the target price, and we will quote a virgin shell and an RPET shell side by side.
